Never
has a Hollywood screenplay delineated such courage and gallantry
as that displayed by the late Gary Cooper, his wife Rocky and their daughter Maria during the last days of our all-time great Western star. The brave spirit that possessed the remarkable Coop - whose career spanned a fabulous thirty-five years - was possessed to the very same degree by his beloved wife and daughter as well. The word Togetherness seemed to have been invented specifically for these three. Their devotion, burnished with gaiety, was even more intense than it had been when Coop was healthy. All three knew he was dying. All three refused to let any sadness seep into their household. |
