Released in 1947, this is not really a Powell-Loy film, but it's included here (for all you purists) because they do appear in it together. Powell plays Melvin G. Ashton, wily phony of a senator whose mission in life is to become President of these United States. Senator Melvin has all kinds of bright ideas: tissue-paper mail to save postage, 3-hour work days for 8 hours of pay (now, that has possibilities....), etc. A reporter (Ella Raines) who's after a hot scoop on the Senator eventually blows the whistle on him, and he is forced to flee to the South Seas. And that's where Myrna comes in, a cameo appearance as "the perfect wife" to accompany the Senator into exile. |
