Not in those exact words; however, Cagney did say, '...you dirty....rat...' in a couple of films. In Blonde Crazy's final scene, he says to Joan Blondell, 'Oh, the dirty, double-crossing rat. I'd like to get my hooks on him - I'd tear him to pieces.' In Taxi, he points his gun at the locked closet where his brother's killer is hiding, and says, 'Come out and take it, you dirty, yellow-bellied rat, or I'll give it to you through the door.' You must see Taxi - no one could deliver that line like Cagney. 'cagneymania'

My musical play, 'Hollywood Rose' opens with Cags O'Brien, a character inspired by the late James Cagney, singing 'Take That You Dirty Rat'. Though Cagney never uttered those words in any movie, it is my tribute to his memory. I wish his descendents could hear the song.
