Oops. I was mistaken about 'Benson Murder Case' being his first Philo Vance film. It looks like that was actually a film called 'Interference.' And 'Canary' and 'The Green Murder Case' may have preceded it as well. I'd love to see that first film.

I grew up on old movies. (I'm now 48.) William Powell has always been one of my very favorite actors. I just bought a very rare book--the photoplay of the 'Benson Murder Case,' his first Philo Vance film. There's a wonderful color picture of him on the front of the dustjacket, looking very suave in a smoking jacket. I was so excited to find you can buy all his Philo Vance films on DVD and video at Tory's Mystery Movies.
